AHK tied up with GSC Junior Officials 2011

Last December 30, 2011 at 2:00 o'clock in the afternoon, some Aim High Kabataan members and General Santos City Junior Officials Batch 2011 spent time with the kids of the Processing Center for Children and the Temporary Shelter for Children, under the supervision of the City Social Welfare and Development Office - General Santos City.

Instead of the usual merry making with the group as a Christmas party, some members decided to make the holidays and Rizal Day memorable by sharing their time, talent and a bit of treasure with some orphans and some Children in Conflict with the laws at the mentioned institution.

Aside from soliciting for toys and cash assistance from different individuals and groups, days before the activity, the Aim High Kabataan - Fatima Chapter through the initiative of Mr. Mark Esber and Mr. Rhyde Petaca conducted a fund raising through Miss Gay pageant - where half of the proceeds were used for the Gift-Giving and the other half was donated to the Typhoon Sendong Victims.

The AHK and GSCJO played games with some of the kids, shared toys, candies and school supplies and prepared a simple feast of Arrozcaldo and Bihon as snacks.

The Aim High Kabataan would specially thank the following:
Youth Affairs & Development Office
City Social Welfare and Development Office - GSC
General Santos City Junior Officials Batch 2011
Shalom Crest Wizard Academy - Academic Scholars and Sir Jovar Pantao
Miss Jea Elaiza Amadeo - Junior Vice Mayor 2011

SUMMERKADAHAN 2011 Officially OPENS

April 25, 2011 - "It is better late than never". That cliche must be on the back of the minds of the people behind Summerkadahan 2011. Now on its 9th Year, Summerkadahan is no longer a Congressional Tournament due to the changes and limitations on the Priority Development Assistance Funds (PDAF) of the House Representatives. Click this to know more. For the past eight years, Summerkadahan is one of the programs that is funded by the Congressional Office of 1st District of South Cotabato, with the help of the dynamic City Mayor of General Santos City who initiated Summerkadahan nine years ago, the Youth Summer extravaganza pushed thru with the City Mayor's Office and Sangguniang Kabataan as its funding agency.

The Opening jumped started with a parade. The Summerkadahan Players clad in their basketball jersey went around the downtown area, minding not the scorching heat of the sun. They proceeded to the Carlos P. Garcia Covered Court for the Opening Program.

Still parading, each Team or Barangay was introduced either together with the SK Chairperson or the Punong Barangay as they enter the venue.

Parade of Teams

Present were the Honorable Congressman Pedro B. Acharon Jr and Honorable City Mayor Darlene Antonino-Custodio who both gave their inspirational messages. The Honorable Representative of the 1st District of South Cotabato on his message gave a hint that Summerkadahan will continue till the years to come with the financial support from the Congressional's Office basing on the recent development on the PDAF. Meanwhile, Mayor Darlene Antonino-Custodio is delighted to see that all 26 Barangays of General Santos joined this years' program, making Summerkadahan 2011 with the most number of participants since it started. Both expressed their prayer of developing camaraderie among the youth and the Barangays through sports.

Other local officials present were, City Councilors: Meg Santos, Nepthalie Natividad, Beth Bagonoc, Vic Dante, Association of Barangay Captains President Lourdes Casabuena and other Punong Barangays.

Most Participated Year for Summerkadahan History

Aside from the Summerkadahan Players, it was also a day for the Sangguniang Kabataan Officials of General Santos City for it is the very first big activity that they managed. The Sangguniang Kabataan serves as the managers for each participating team and their roles includes providing uniforms, food, transportation and other support to their team.

Headed by their SK Federation President Mac Alejandre Tablazon, the Sangguniang Kabataan headed the Opening Program which also includes the traditional Ceremonial Toss for each event. After the ceremony, a 3 Point Shoot-Out Contest took place with one representative from each participating Barangays wherein Raphael Lape of Barangay Buayan won.

Another addition to the Opening Salvo was the SK's version of ShowTime. Barangay Fatima's representative went home as Champions while Barangay Apopong and Barangay Bula bagged the 1st and 2nd Place respectively. Click this for a detailed Post on the SK: Showtime.

Moreover, the Summerkadahan Games are being played at these venues, Carlos P. Garcia Covered Court (Basketball & Volleyball), Covered Courts of Barangay Ligaya and Barangay Tambler(Basketball) and Notre Dame of Dadiangas University Open Field (Baseball/Football).

Please come back for the schedule and updates of Games.

Summerkadahan 2011 KICKED-OFF with AHK

The Summer Youth Extravaganza of the then 1st District of South Cotabato Representative Darlene Antonino- Custodio - SUMMERKADAHAN is going strong on its 9th Year. Continued by the current 1st District Representative Pedro B. Acharon, the Congressional Office tied up with the City Mayor's Office thru Mayor Darlene A. Custodio and its constant partner the Sangguniang Kabataan.

Group Picture with Barangay Katangawan Team

For the past 8 years, Summerkadahan had been a Congressional Level Competition for the young Basketball and Volleyball Players of the District. This year though, due to the constrictions of the PNoy Administration on the spending of the Priority Development Assistance Funds (PDAF) commonly known as the "PORK BARREL" of each Congressman; Summerkadahan will be just a City-Level Tournament for us here in General Santos City.

What made Summerkadahan 2011 extra special is the the inclusion of the Inter-School Competitions as part of the Sports Program of the Local Government. Tournaments includes, softball, baseball, football/soccer and more. For the Inter-Barangay, Basketball and Volleyball competitions still continue.

Since its inception, it may sound mediocre but Summerkadahan's primary objective is to keep the young people away from the bad vices most especially Drug Addiction. Partnering with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Summerkadahan Sports Tournament will not be complete without the conduct of Orientation for the participants focusing mainly on the topics: RA 9165, Effects of Drug Abuse and the likes.

Maam Michelle of PDEA at Barangay Labangal

On its 9th Year, Aim High Kabataan has been tapped to spearhead the Summerkadahan Orientation. A 3-hour Orientation/Workshop for each barangays was designed for this year. With the the theme, GEARING THE YOUTH FOR A POSITIVELY HEALTHY COMMUNITY THROUGH SPORTS, the AHK Speaker's Bureau added the concentration on the Aspects of a Healthy Sports Environment which includes, Sportsmanship, Teamwork and Good Ethics. Together with the Preventive Education and Community Involvement Division of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, the Aim High Kabataan bringing the name of Summerkadahan went around the 26 Barangays of General Santos City for 6 days.

Puzzle Game with the Participants

The group also conducted a One-Time, Big-Time Orientation last March 29, 2011 for the Inter-School Participants at the Oval Covered Court.

Aim High Kabataan would like to thank the following: Hon. Pedro B. Acharon, Hon. Darlene Antonino-Custodio, City Mayor's Office, Sports Division., Youth Affairs and Development Office, Sangguniang Kabataan Officials, PDEA, Summerkadahan Participants, Coaches, Teachers and the Summerkadahan Technical Working Group.

The Opening of Summerkadahan 2011 will take place on April 25, 2011. A parade of participating Schools and Barangays will start at around 3pm and the Official Opening Program will follow after.

RECOMMENDATION

The Battle of the Bands during Pasko sa Gensan is a good add-on to the festivities highlights. It can have its Chrismasy Feel thru the songs that the bands will be performing and the costumes they are required to wear during the contests.

The organizing committee of this event suggests that during the screening and finals, band instruments should be provided including the bass, rhythm guitars, drums and drumsticks so more neophyte yet talented bands can join.

It would also be best, if spreading of invitation and information will be a month or two ahead of the date, to give the interested groups ample time to prepare and practice. Thus, competing bands for the finals will the best among the best.

For the FINALS, it should be stated clear that tardiness is a factor in winning or losing in the competition.

Overall, the SIGAW KABATAAN: Battle of the Bands sa Pasko sa Gensan is successful. The majority are satisfied with the outcome and quiet a number of spectators are present.
