WHO ARE WE?

AIM HIGH KABATAAN is a Federation of Young Leaders in General Santos City (both from the academe, government and non-government organization of General Santos City) whose primary objective is to empower the youth of the city by crafting a sustainable, stable and maintainable program applicable for the youth in our locality.

The federation endeavors to create a network and to establish active partnerships with other youth organization leaders and volunteers involved in the active pursuit of good governance, meaningful and genuine electoral process and in developing informed and empowered youth through Social Awareness and Involvement, Leadership and Capacity Building, and Volunteerism.

HOW WE CAME ABOUT?

In February 2007, a group of young leaders got together upon the request of Hon. Darlene Magnolia Antonino-Custodio. The congresswoman sensed the need to create an arena for social involvement by the youth in the light of the May 2007 elections. She asked these young leaders composed of Sangguniang Kabataan Chairpersons, Student Council Representatives and other young leaders in the city to collaborate in formulating a program which help educate and empower the youth by taking part in different social and governmental issues especially in promoting clean and honest election. After weeks of reflection and meeting up over several coffee breaks, the group forged to structure the federation into what is now called AIM High Kabataan (AHK) Federation of Young Leaders in General Santos City.

Pioneering AIM HIGH KABATAAN's one of the many consultation meeting

AIM is an acronym for Achievers with Integrity Movement, an alliance of political leaders in the city, led by former Congressman Adel Antonino and incumbent Mayor Jun Acharon. It was adopted because the group believed with its principle of governance with integrity and a slogan of “No corruption at all”. The young leaders have also sworn their affiliation to the alliance in support with its ultimate goal of serving the people and governing the city with veracity and honor. Since the group is composed of young individuals with brilliant minds, high kabataan was added to its name. High, for being elite in their passion for youth service and organizations they lead.

Few of our programs and activities are as follows:

  • (AHK) GENSAN YOUTH AGENDA:
A Forum for the Development and Empowerment of Today’s Youth
YEAR 2007
The federation started by visiting and conducting a forum for the youth entitled GENSAN YOUTH AGENDA in the 26 barangays of the city and selected colleges and universities. This primarily aims to hear the voice and capture their views and response on issues and concerns within the locality. It also intends to educate the youth of their vital role in choosing deserving government leaders. The federation’s activity was oversee by GSC Youth Affairs and Development Office Head Mr. Elmer Cequiña and was personally supervised by Congresswoman Antonino and was supported by Barangay and SK officials, student leaders, and other community volunteers. This initial activity of the federation is considered a success seeing how youth voters behave drawing positive result in the 2007 election.
  • SUMMERKADAHAN - Aim High Kabataan then became an active partner of this Youth Program by helping in educating the young people of the 1st District of South Cotabato. Click this to read more.
  • SANGGUNIANG KABATAAN ORIENTATIONS
As one of our main partners we see to it to work closely with the Sangguniang Kabataan of General Santos.
CONSOLIDATION AND EXPANSION
Today, AHK receives increasing demand and request from different organizations to conduct youth trainings, seminar and forums. Given that the group was originally composed of only 9 members, it has decided to expand its network now with a more widen scope. SK Leaders and student leaders are still part of the recruitment, religious youth organization, ROTARAC, out-of-school youths, NGO youth groups, etc… has been invited and screened to be part of the federation thus the result of the YOUTH CONSORTIUM.
We are working for a better breed of LEADERS in the future!
